Get involved and get moving on campus

Nor'easters tend to be “doers” who are engaged and curious. Thanks to our in-the-mix locations and exceptionally supportive culture, you won’t run out of things to do here — or friends who share your interests. Hop in a kayak and explore the rugged coastline, learn a new sport on an intramural team, or just have a blast at bingo night — you’ll feel at home and find your passion in the Nor’easter community.

College is about more than just the classes you take; it's about diving in intellectually, socially, and recreationally — learning, exploring, making memories and forming bonds with students and faculty that can last a lifetime. UNE offers more than 100 clubs and organizations — from Anime Club to Volunteers Around the World — to enhance your college experience and expand your world.

Athletics is a big part of UNE’s culture of collaboration and participation. UNE is home to 18 Division III NCAA varsity sports teams — including our 2022 women’s field hockey conference champs and our men’s ice hockey semifinalists — as well as 20 competitive club sports teams. The athletic excellence unfolds in state-of-the-art facilities, from the Alfond Forum — the hub of Nor’easter nation, which houses our ice arena, giant wood-floor courts, athlete training spaces, and a cafe — to our collection of custom-built blue turf fields. UNE student-athletes are students first: 64% of our athletes made the Dean's list in fall 2022, and their average GPA was 3.33.

Whether you are a seasoned athlete or new to the game, joining intramural sports provides a fun and safe environment to meet people, stay healthy, and get your game on. The UNE Intramural Sports program offers all students, faculty, and professional staff an opportunity to engage in a wide variety of recreational activities.

Exercise Facilities

Get moving in our exercise facilities, including the Campus Center on the Biddeford Campus and the Finley Recreation Center on the Portland Campus. Team athletes also enjoy access to high-quality training facilities in the Alfond Forum. All spaces are equipped with state-of-the-art strength and cardio equipment as well as conditioning areas and group fitness space.

Outdoor Recreation Equipment Rentals

Southern Maine’s beaches, mountains, and woods open up endless recreational opportunities, and UNE will make sure you’ve got the right gear. The Campus Center and Finley Rec in Portland are both fully stocked for your next adventure, so come on in and rent equipment for hiking, surfing, skiing, camping, and more.
